Monumental Inscriptions, Cemeteries and Graveyards of Anglesey
Image Right - The original Llanfihangel Ysceifiog (Pentre Berw) Church.
There are over 100 Churches on Anglesey in North Wales, if one counts the redundant Churches. Historically, a Church may have been made 'redundant' for one of several reasons, for example the centre of the community moved (Telford's new road across Anglesey resulted in this in some communities), or because they were such in need of repair that it was deigned necessary, or made more sense to build a new one.
Anglesey's Churches - and Chapels - share a long and sometimes bloody history, being looted by Vikings or the Irish was commonplace in the Dark Ages.
The origin of some of Anglesey's Churches goes back to the fifth century, although the existing building at the earliest might date back to the 12th century.
The aim of this project is to gather together information regarding cemeteries and graveyards in the county which either have available transcriptions or have been photographed and transcribed.
Please update the project by adding links to any available monumental inscriptions or pages where images of the graves/cemeteries can be seen - mostly Billion Graves or Find a Grave.
Please do not link profiles to this project - its purpose is to inform!
Links to pages that have no entries are marked ✘.
Those links with records have no ✘ (blank, or the number of entries in some instances).
