Bern Churchyard, Leesport, Pennsylvania

This historic site is set upon a hill, and the graves are primarily from the German families who first settled in the area of Bernville, Berks County, Pennsylvania. The original church dated to 1736, and was one of the first 30 German Reformed Churches in Pennsylvania. The current church was finished in 1958.

As there are no numbered or lettered plots, a lettering system was at one time established which suggested counting upwards from the bottom of the hill. This will help, but it is not exact, as the plots are not in straight lines.

You'll find many veterans, some dating to the American Revolution; most have flags and markers commemorating service. However, stones are weathered and hard to read. For the history of this church, as well as PDFs of burials in Bern Churchyard, please see www.bernreformeducc.org.
