Brunei, officially Brunei Darussalam is a country in Southeast Asia, situated on the northern coast of the island of Borneo. Apart from its coastline on the South China Sea, it is completely surrounded by the Malaysian state of Sarawak, with its territory bifurcated by the Sarawak district of Limbang. Brunei is the only sovereign state entirely on Borneo; the remainder of the island is divided between its multi-landmass neighbours of Malaysia and Indonesia. Most of Brunei is within the Borneo lowland rain forests ecoregion, which covers most of the island. Areas of mountain rain forests are located inland. Terasul is an honorary reference system used in the official speech of the Malay language in Brunei to refer to certain people, especially royalty, dignitaries and people who are given honors. It is a phrase that is added before mentioning or writing the name of an individual. The use of terasul depends on the darjat (social standing/ status level), rank, position and title of the person being referred.
