This subportal is part of the State of Ohio Portal and the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards Portal.

Within the roughly 3,000 towns and cities that make up the State of Ohio, there are approximately 4,100 cemeteries. These range from small, private family burying grounds with only a few graves to large public cemeteries covering hundreds of acres with hundreds of thousands of graves.

This project serves as a place to 1) discuss Ohio cemetery research and 2) work on subprojects for individual cemeteries in the state.

Index of Cemetery Projects

Instead of us having to continually and manually update this overview to list all projects we have on Geni for Ohio cemeteries, this subportal uses Geni's built-in "Related Projects" feature.

You can find our list of "Related Projects" either at the right of this page (if you are on a desktop/laptop) or beneath this overview as you scroll down (if you are on a mobile device).

Adding Cemeteries

To add a cemetery project to our list, simply click the "edit" link at the upper right of the list and type in the project's name. Geni will then automatically connect the projects to each other.

Two important practice notes:

  1. The only projects that should be listed in the "Related Projects" section are cemeteries in Ohio, the State of Ohio portal, and the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards portal. Do not add other projects, even if related to Ohio or cemeteries in general.
  2. When adding "Related Projects" on cemetery project pages, do add a link to this project but do not add links to the State of Ohio portal or the Cemeteries, Memorials & Graveyards portal, as that as redundant and clogs up those portals' own "Related Projects" lists.

If we follow these two guidelines, we will maintain a clean, easy-to-browse list of Ohio cemeteries for all to use!
