This cemetery includes the 1956 TWA Disaster Memorial and mass grave. The victims of the same crash, in United Airlines 718, were buried in Grand Canyon Cemetery.

Citizens Cemetery was established in 1891, according to an account by the late historian Platt Cline. But it did not open until 1914, when town fathers decided to move 40 existing graves from the former Greenwood Cemetery to the new location.
