Croatian Australians are Australian citizens of Croatian descent. Croatia has been a source of migrants to Australia, particularly in the 1960s and 1970s. In 2011, 126,264 persons resident in Australia (0.6%) identified themselves as having Croatian ancestry.

The purpose of this project is to enter those who migrated to Australia No need to add all of their descendants unless they they are well known or significant figures.

It is important to make sure we all follow the same principle in entering names, it helps discovering duplicates

How to enter profile names and information

First name

If person had more than one name, please enter them all in the First name field - do not use 'middle name' as it causes data conflicts when merging

Surname

Geni has option to enter multiple language versions of the person's name. You can access it using tabs above entry fields.

• Birth surname should be used for women's maiden surname, if unknown please nete '?'. If both married and maiden surnames are the same, please enter 'r.' for Croatian version of the surname or 'nee' fro English before the maiden surname
• Display name - no need to use it

English is a default on Geni, so please enter persons' full name as it was used in English
Enter Modern Croatian version of the name enter under Croatian language tab (phonetic – with Croatian accents if you can).
If Church book record is written in another language (most often Italian, Latin, German or Hungarian) please add those language options as needed
Many families have used double surnames. If you know it, please entere it as it helps distinguish families and people with same names for example Marko Lozica Barbaresko is different from Marko Lozica Buzolic

Date of birth

If unknown, calculate 25-30 years from previous or next generation to avoid wrong merges and unnecessary matches

Death

If it is known that the person died young, please include image Died young""

Place names

Geni uses geographic location, so the place name needs to entered accordingly so people can find it on the map. Everything else about the place, such as historical context, should go to 'About me'. Please do not use names of the countries that do not exist today. Some places have changed rules every few years and the only way to avoid silly errors is to use what is a correct geolocation.

Pravila za unos podataka - prijedlog

• Ime / first name - ako osoba ima više imena, upišite ih sve u prvo polje. Ne koristiti 'middle name' opciju..
• Prezime / Surname - Treba napisati onako kako se pojavljuje u Hrvatskom jeziku (phonetic – sa hrvatskim znakovima i akcentima). Ako je verzija prezimena u crkvenim knjigama napisana drukcije, to se može dodati pod ‘nicknames’ ili ‘about me’. Za one koji su promijenili prezime tokom života, npr nakon iseljavanja u drugu zemlju upisati oba prezimena: Prezime s kojim je osoba rođena / prezime kojim se koristila kada je umrla. Npr: Joze/Joe Grubisic / Grubi, Marko / Mark Sevelj / Sevegl
• Velik broj obitelji koristio je dvostruka prezimena. Ako vam je poznato drugo prezime, potrebno ga je upisati, Npr: Marko Lozica Barbaresko je razlicito od Marko Lozica Buzolic
• u polje za djevojačko prezime upisati ga ako je poznato , a ako nije onda ‘?’
• Display name - djevojačko prezime uvijek u zagradama, npr. Mara Sundic (?) ili Mara Sundic (Nola)
• Datum rođenja - ako je datum rođenja nepoznat, izračunajte oko 25-30 godina od prethodne ili slijedeće generacije da bi se smanjila mogućnost krivog spajanja ljudi sa istim imenom.
• Datum smrti - ako se zna da je osoba umrla u ranom djetinjstvu, uključiti sliku 'umro kao dijete' (Died young) ili nešto slično.
• Nazivi mjesta - Nazivi mjesta trebaju odgovarati trenutnom stanju hrvatskih granica, ne ono sto je nekad bilo (npr. ne Jugoslavija, Austrija, Austro-Mađarska, Italija i tako dalje).
