George Givens was the son of Bernard Givens and Agness Bookless. He was born in Scotland yet his father was born in Ireland. He married Mary Mills McIntyre, daughter of Alex in South Australia. George was a little of a larican and this is possibly why he ventured to Australia without accompanying the rest of his family to Canada.
He had sandy hair and whiskers and fair complexion. 6 feet tall, aged about 39 in 1886 making his birth in 1847 or so.
The ship Clara, 938 tons, Captain R.J. Barrow, from London 21st January, Plymouth 4th February, 1865 arrived at Port Adelaide, South Australia 1st May 1865
