Descendants of Delegates to 4th Provincial Congress in North Carolina

The 4th Provincial Congress that was held in Halifax NC and the delegates unanimously adopted a bold resolution on April 12th, 1776 as a first step for American independence from Great Britain. This project is searching for descendants of those delegates who put their life, property, and liberty on the line for freedom.

The Halifax Resolves was sent with the North Carolina delegation to the Philadelphia Congress which was responsible for the writing of the Declaration of Independence. The Resolves is preserved in the National Archives, Library of Congress in Washington. DC. The North Carolina site flag commemorates the date tat NC took the first step toward freedom.

Historic Halifax, NC is located just below the Virginia border, off I-95. An annual celebration is held every year on April 12th in the town which includes a number of important buildings. The visitor center offers free tours of taverns, houses, masonic lodge, law office, and home the William Richardson Davie who was a statesman, a governor, and a cofounder of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
