This project opens up an important time & experience for African-Americans living in the South who had been barely maintaining a working Wage from Sharecropping and Heard about Better Job & Housing opportunities in the Western United States such as California in the 1940's.
This experence actually happened with my Grandparents on my father's side. My Grandparents were born & raised in Arkansas. They later moved out to the East Bay Area of Northern California to work in the Shipyards of Richmond, California. The other Project that should be started as an Adjunct to this one are the Women who were "Rosie the Riveters". Many of the Women of Color who were working on the Warships were Women who Migrated from the South to the West! There is a Very Rich History in American Life which include, "Dreams of a BetterTomorrow"!!
