Earlham Cemetery was established in 1861 on the west side of Richmond, adjacent to Earlham College. It became a corporation in 1863. Construction of a multi-family mausoleum and chapel was started in 1976 and completed in the spring of 1977.

Earlham Cemetery's "Soldier's Field" was set aside for the interment of veterans until space ran out in the late 1950s. The "Veteran's Field of Honor" was later created in 1992.

Today, Earlham Cemetery occupies 140 acres of landscaped property with an addition 160 undeveloped.

Earlham Cemetery Inc. also owns Lutherania Cemetery and Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, both in Richmond.
