The mass-produced electric bass guitar was introduced by Leo Fender in 1951, but did not achieve popularity until the late 1950s, after which it gradually became the predominant string bass instrument in most genres other than Jazz and Classical music. Musicians who only play traditional double-bass should not be included in this project
