Hampton Cemetery is effectively two separate cemeteries, both owned and operated by the Township of Hampton. The cemetery on the north side of 4th St. is known as, "Hampton 1st - 5th Cemetery", while the cemetery on the south side is known as, "Hampton 6th Cemetery".
Originally there was one cemetery called, "Hampton Cemetery". Then the township added more land and referred to it as the "second addition". Eventually they added a third addition, then a fourth, and then finally a fifth.
When they ran out of land, they acquired land on the south side of 4th St. and referred to its as "Hampton 6th Cemetery", but operate it as a completely separate cemetery from the 1st to 5th.
There are today an estimated 4,000 to 4,100 burials in this cemetery going back into the 1800s.
