The Wichita Cemetery Company abandoned Highland Cemetery on July 1, 1982. The City Council took over the responsibilities on September 21, 1982. The cemetery assets were transferred to the City December 22, 1982. The City of Wichita, Department of Parks and Recreation, currently maintains Highland Cemetery.
