
This project seeks to collect all of the Jewish families with ancestors from Pohrebyshche, Ukraine, a town located at 49°29' N, 29°16' E, 40 miles ENE of Vinnitsa and 42 miles SE of Berdychiv. It has been referred to as Pohrebyshche [Ukr], Pogrebishche [Rus], Probishta [Yid], Pohrebyszcze [Pol], Pohrebysche, Pogrebishchenskiy, Pogrebischtsche, Porebishtsh, Pogrebisce, Pogrebishche, Pohrebysce, and Pochrebishtche. Jews first settled in Pohrebyshche during the 17th century. In 1900, the Jewish population of the shtetl was 2,494, but currently there are no Jews living there.
