The Lindsay-Strathmore Public Cemetery District is a Special District of the county of Tulare. The District includes the Lindsay and Frazier Valley Cemeteries. Tulare County governs the District Board of Supervisors, which appoints the Cemetery Board of Trustees. The District is financially supported by the charges for services rendered and the property taxes of the Lindsay and Strathmore residents.
The Lindsay Cemetery currently has approximately 28 acres in developed cemetery, 24 acres in orange groves, and approximately 1 acre of bare land, which can be developed as needed. The Lindsay Cemetery averages 130 interments annually. The Frazier Valley Cemetery, located in the Strathmore foothills, consists of 2.7 acres and averages 5 annual interments.
This cemetery is located on 639 South Foothill Avenue, Lindsay, Tulare County, California. It's also known as Olive Cemetery.
Originally it was owned by the Olive Land Company. In 1930 the people voted this cemetery into the Lindsay-Strathmore District as a Public Cemetery District. At this time Tulare County had divided the entire county into cemetery districts but private cemeteries, within each district, continue to remain under their own jurisdiction.
As of 1930, this cemetery changed its name to Lindsay Cemetery and this Old Olive Cemetery, is now governed by the Tulare County Board of Supervisor and operated by an election Board.
This cemetery only had the name of Olive Cemetery for eleven years. Locals have and continue to refer to this Cemetery as the Lindsay Cemetery after 80 years. Most people do not know this cemetery as the Old Olive Cemetery. A couple of the mortuaries will refer to this cemetery as Olive Cemetery for reasons unknown.
The old side of the cemetery, on the left side, has upright markers, and the new section, on the right side, has flat ones.
At present the Lindsay-Strathmore District governs 2 cemeteries within the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery District. Lindsay Cemetery and Frazier Valley Cemetery Several small private cemeteries are also found with this district but not governed by the Lindsay-Strathmore Cemetery District.
The name used is Lindsay Cemetery, as it is located outside the city limits of Lindsay, Tulare County, California.
