Izhevsk (Russian: Иже́вск, IPA: [%C9%AA%CB%88%CA%90%C9%9Bfsk]; Udmurt: Иж, Iž, or Ижкар, Ižkar) is the capital city of Udmurtia, Russia, located along the Izh River in the Western Ural Mountains. Its population is 629,455 (2012 est.),[5] up from 627,734 recorded in the 2010 Census, making it the nineteenth-largest city in Russia and the largest in the republic.[6]

From 1984 to 1987, the city was called Ustinov (Russian: Усти́нов), named after late Soviet Minister of Defence Dmitry Ustinov[12] The city is a major hub of industry, commerce, politics, culture and education in the Volga Region. It is famous for its defense, engineering and metallurgy industries. Izhevsk has the titles of the Armory Capital of Russia and the City of Labor Glory.

Иже́вск (удм. Иж, Иж кар) — двадцатый по численности населения город Российской Федерации, крупный промышленный, торговый, научно-образовательный и культурный центр Поволжья и Предуралья, столица Удмуртской Республики. Образует городской округ город Ижевск.

Знаменит оборонным и машиностроительным производствами. Носит неофициальное звание «оружейной столицы» Российской Федерации, и звание города трудовой славы. В 2010 году Ижевск занял 3-е место в конкурсе Росстроя «Самый благоустроенный город России» в I категории[8].
