The Mountain Jewish community (also known as "Juhuro") is originally from the Eastern and Northern Caucasus, in what are now the republics of Dagestan, Azerbaijan, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria.

Exactly when the community was established is unknown, but there were likely multiple migrations during different periods in history where Jews moved from places like Persia and Babylonia.

"היהודים ההרריים" (הנקראים גם "ג'והורו", יהודים בפרסית) הינה קהילה שמקורה מהקווקז המרכזי, בעיקר מדינות דאגסתאן, אזרבייג'ן, צ'צ'ניה וקברדינו-בלקריה.

ראשית דברי ימי הקהילה לוטים בערפל, אך נראה כי היו מספר הגירות של יהודים אל הקווקד בשלבים שונים במשך ההיסטוריה.
