The voyage of the ship Shakespeare to Wellington, New Zealand in 1875/76

The 'Shakespeare' left from Hamburg in Germany on the 7th Oct 1875 and among the passengers were the 30 Bohemians forming the 5th contingent headed for Puhoi.

6 couples all with children: Jacob MULTRUS (aged 37), his wife Anna - nee KOHALOTTA (24) and son Anton (1)

Michael PAUL (56), his wife Maria - nee KICKSTEIN (41), sons Joseph (24), Wenzl (18), Johann (16) , Christian (8) and daughters Maria (11), Anna (4) and Veronica (1).

Johann PLATZ (32), wife Katherina (31) - nee STOLZBORD along with 3 children by his previous marriage to Lena BAYER who did not come. They were sons Wenzl (9) and Joseph (4) and daughter Maria (6).

Anton SCHEDEWY (aged 33), wife Margarethe - nee RUSSEK (32), daughters Elizabeth (11), Maria (6), Theresa (5) and son Martin (2).

Wenzl SCHISCHKA (32), wife Margarethe - nee BREHM, (25), daughter Margarethe (3) and son Anton (2).

Joseph SITTAUER (31), wife Margarethe - nee SCHISCHKA (26) and sons Wenzl (3) and Joseph (1)

Also aboard was Peter ANDERSON from Sweden (who later married Mary PANKRATZ).

The 'Shakespeare' reached Wellington, New Zealand on 23rd Jan 1876 after a 118 day passage.
