African American Cemetery.
This small cemetery is located in the woods in Pine Barren, east of US 29 about one-half mile north of Little Pine Barren Cemetery. A local resident, Billy Allen, showed it to members of the West Florida Genealogical Society (WFGS) and said that he had been told it was a black cemetery. Only 7 stones were found plus a few unmarked depressions when WFGS surveyed the cemetery in the 1980's. Most headstones were hand carved into homemade stones.
Directions: Drive north on US29 past Cantonment to Pine Barren at S Pine Barren Road. Turn right on S Pine Barren Road and drive about one mile. The cemetery is off the road on the right past a small branch.
