This project is for those buried in Poland Riverside Cemetery, Poland, Mahoning County, Ohio.
The cemetery is located on 110 Riverside Drive and is also known as Poland Cemetery and Riverside Cemetery.
In 1865 a few Poland Village men realized that the graveyard next to the Presbyterian Church would not be large enough for the many returning Civil War veterans and their families. To honor these returning war veterans 3.3 acres of land were purchased on the east bank of Yellow Creek for the purpose of laying out a second cemetery. Over the years this cemetery has grown to 30 acres. It contains one mile of paved roads and over 5,000 graves.
The Soldiers' Monument was dedicated in 1887 by then Congressman and future President William McKinley. The monument contains the names of those soldiers from Poland who died during the Civil War and were buried elsewhere.
The garden-like setting is maintained by a Board of Trustees and a dedicated staff.
