Profiles with stolen photos

Project Tags

With ready access to all kinds of digital media, appropriating photos from internet sources with no regard to copyright protection is quite commonplace. Do you know of a profile with pictures obtained without permision? Should modern day compilers even have to ask for the use of this material found in public sites? When I asked for permission to use a picture of the Crux Guriat from Oxford University Press, they denied me because of their rules against public forums, even though the picture was for a distant grandfather of mine. At what point does information become the property of the public, and what are the repercussions of our use of them?
