Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness

Project Tags

The basis of this project is a 2000 film called Pay It Forward. In the film, the hero devises a charitable pyramid scheme, based on good deeds rather than profit. He calls his plan "Pay It Forward," which means the recipient of a favor does a favor for a third party rather than paying the favor back. To be a collaborator on this project, you must pick three random Geni users and provide them some form of help--a Random Act of Genealogy Kindness (RAGK)--with their branch of the World Family Tree.

An example of this might be to locate a source on the Internet that documents a portion of their tree and perhaps provides them with some new information about one or more of their ancestors. Another example might be to point out to two Geni users that they each have a profile that may need to be merged. (I found two such profiles this morning when doing searches for profiles of my own. I contacted the profile managers and alerted them to the existence of each other's profile, which probably need to be merged.)

If you wish to participate here, you simply need to perform three RAGKs. When contacting the recipients of your RAGKs, don't forget to tell them about this project. Informing them about the project will also explain your motivation for contacting them.

Additionally, if you receive a RAGK, you are honor bound to perform three RAGKs yourself. If this pyramid scheme catches on, the World Family Tree will grow in leaps and bounds.
