El nombre Rotary denota la práctica inicial de reunirse en las oficinas de los socios en forma rotativa. La popularidad de Rotary se extendió raudamente y después de una década, se fundaron clubes desde San Francisco y Nueva York, a Winnipeg, Canadá. En 1921, ya se habían formado clubes en todas partes del mundo, y un año después la organización adoptó el nombre de Rotary International.
