General Ballou made this voyage under charter to the IRO to bring Displaced Persons to Australia, sailing from Naples , Italy on 23 February 1950 with 1257 Displaced Persons on board under the Displaced Persons Scheme. General Ballou arrived in Sydney 23 March 1950.
All passengers proceeded to the Department of Immigration Reception and Training Centre, Bathurst per special trains which departed from No 13 wharf, Pyrmont.
