This project collects information and documents on the Landau family of Zawiercie, Poland, later from Canada / U.S.A. These are the descendants of Avraham Yosef (1872-1911) and Itta (Pilcewicz d. 1931) Landau. It is known that there were more than one independent Landau families of Zawiercie. Jewish families are often differentiated by the Kohen / Levi / Yisrael breakdown. Most Landau families are Leviim (Levites) descended from the famous Rabbi Yechezkel Landau of Prague (1700s) -- known as the Noda BiYehuda. This Landau family are Yisraelim (therefore not descended down the male line of the Noda BiYehuda. It is know that at least one of the Noda BiYehuda's sons-in-law took on the name Landau, so a descent down the maternal line is possible, although not proven.
