Wesley Chapel Cemetery is a historical Township-owned and operated cemetery that provides important archaeological, genealogical, and cultural resources to our community. Founded in 1818, the Wesley Chapel Cemetery continues to be one of the largest Township cemeteries in Ohio with a total of 43 acres. Wesley Chapel Cemetery is open every day from daylight to sunset.
The cemetery was created in 1832 on land adjacent to Wesley Methodist Episcopalian Church. The first burial was in 1836. The church continued to operate the cemetery up until 1870 when it was taken over by Norwich Township Trustees.
At the time the Township took over the cemetery, the Trustees approved a proposal to use public funds to improve a road that led to the cemetery. It was named, "Hilliard-Cemetery Road". The road began in town and went east to the Scioto River and turned right to the cemetery. In later years a stretch of the road that turned south was named Dublin Road as it ran north to Dublin in Washington Township.
