Žamić u Brelima

Za tvorbu prezimena Žamić najvjerojatnije je kao motiv poslužilo zanimanje jednog od članova obitelji, od kojeg je najprije nastao nadimak, koji su strani bilježnici zapisali u današnjem obliku prezimena. Džam perz. - okno, prozor, staklo. Džam: "Snijeg se zamrznuo pa se nebo u njemu ogleda kao džam". Ovo prezime oslikava vrijeme u kojem su nastajala nova zanimanja. Usavršavanjem alata za obradu kamena zidovi postaju ravniji te se na ulogu vrata i prozora postavljaju novi zahtjevi (sigurnost, nepropusnost, prodor svjetlosti, estetski izgled i sl.), osim drva potrebito je upotrebljavati i novi materijal. Novi zahtjevi zahtijevaju novog majstora specijalistu koji obradi drva posvećuje više pažnje tc poznaje metal i staklo. Majstor dobiva strani naziv Džam - Džamadžija - (sin od Džama) - Džamić koje je strani bilježnik upisao u današnjem obliku Žamić.
Oko 1830. godine Žamići su imali građevinske objekte (kuće, staje, dvorišta i bunare) u četirima zaseocima: Podskalicama, Banji, Zabrdom i u Zaveterju. Na popisu stanovnika koji je sačinio Jurju Cetergi 27. lipnja 1686. u
Zadvarju, na listu 476. Generalnog providura Cornara libro unico koji se čuva u Povijesnom arhivu u Zadru, među doseljenicima iz Zagvozda u Brela upisano je i ime Andrije Žamića s 3 člana obitelji. U svojim objavljenim radovima fra Vjeko Vrčić i dr. Stavko Kovačić ovu obitelj su izostavili. U Imotskoj krajini ne spominju se Žamići već Džamići kao nadimak Šabića u Zmijavcima. Prema matičnoj knjizi Omiša za 1799. godinu u Brelima je živjela jedna obitelj Žamića, koja se vodi:

U Elaboratu Austrijskog katastarskog premjera od 1830. godine građevinski objekti bili su upisani na imena:
 a) Podskalice i Banji - Ante pok. Ivana i Grge,
 b) Zabrdom - Mate, Ante pok. Ivana i Stjepana,
 c) Zaveterje - Mate i Grge.

Za vrijeme popisa stanovništva iz 1948 godine u Republici Hrvatskoj Žamići (Zanići) su živjeli u šest naselja, a breljanska skupina bila je najveća. Činila ju je 61 osoba u 12 obitelji.
