  • NL: Grondlegger van de Twentse Textielindustrie. Met zijn ervaring opgedaan in Engeland hielp hij bij gebruik van de stoommachine en de snelspoel in Twente. In Enschede gebruikten ze een smietspoel, die de wever zelf door de weefgetouw gooide, maar 'n snelspoel werkt sneller en nauwkeuriger. Ainsworth adviseerde weefscholen op te richten. De eerste weefschool kwam in Goor in 1833. In 1852 werd -in Nijverdal- voor het eerst een stoommachine gebruikt bij het weven in een fabriek die G. en H. Salomonson uit Almelo hadden overgenomen van Ainsworth. Nijverdal lag handig aan de weg van Almelo naar Zwolle en het riviertje De Regge.
