Beisel is a German name.
Some Beisels immigrated to Russia during the reign of Empress Catherine the Great, and settled in what would eventually become the Volga German Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic after the Russian Revolution. The group of ethnic Germans who settled in this fertile region of the Russian Empire were called Volga Germans because their settlements centered on the Volga River.
Many Volga Germans, including Beisels, immigrated to North and South America to flee poverty, violence, and later, oppression. The Volga German community in Russia was deported by Stalin during World War II, and survivors can be found in the former Soviet Union even today.
