The Brownstein's came from kamenets podilsky Ukraine a family in the winery business.Joseph Brownstein left the Ukraine with his brother in law louis nudelman for Chicago to work for a company that manufacturer's coats.Louis the tailor settled into his new job in Chicago and his brother in law joseph swept the floors for 2 dollars a week. Meanwhile joseph's wife marion fannie and her son morris in 1892 take a steam ship to new York then arrive in Chicago to meet up with husband and father joseph.Marion fannie's mother brina brimmer nudelman of vinivitsa Ukraine immigrate to America in 1895 to Chicago with morris nudelman her husband and children annie,lena,abraham.Both families celebrate wedding anniversaries,having bosses through other relations jobs,share living conditions within the same neighborhood or walk up building.Both the nudelmans and brownsteins settle in Chicago and some in los angeles to raise their families and extended families for generations to come.Joseph's brothers hyman and Jacob of the kamenets podilsky Ukraine arrived in America before their brother joseph and are also living in Chicago with their wives and children. While the Chicago brownsteins settled in Chicago and some later in California,they shared the same great great grandfather or for them directly related father morris david .Morris david either divorced,was widowed,or led an entirely secondary life having another family of 4 sons and 2 daughters.The secondary life was from the same town as the original family kamenets,podilsky Ukraine,but the family immigrated to Philadelphia.The second set of brownsteins always thought about their cousins of the original family which were hyman Brownstein's children Myron d. and Julius, and also hazel.Questions were asked in hushed voices about what has happened to Myron d. Between the 2 families secrecy prevailed and in 2019 I hope and the philly's raina we both hope to find answers to the hush hush conversations and not mentioned of the brownsteins of Illinois and philly.
