"At the end of the 18th century, the two most prominent families of Gorneyim at Algiers were the Bacris and the Busnachs. The latter family was established in Algiers in 1723 by Nephtali Busnach, and in 1724 by Abraham Busnach. It was Abraham's son, Nephtali, who was destined to rise to the zenith of power attainable by a Jew in a Moslem state."
