About the Hospel surname

The Hospel surname is a bit rare. Most Hospels are in The Netherlands, Belgium and England, at least one. Some Hospels are from the Eastern part of Europe. There are a few Hospels in Germany but it seems that none of the Eastern Europe and German Hospels are related to any of the Dutch Hospels. There are now a fairly good number of Hospels living in the USA. All of them are related to the Dutch Hospels. There is one known case were a person in New York changed the name form Hostel to Hospel. There was no explanation given why the change occurred. More research is to be done. The name Hospel contains a Latin base: hospes, the word meaning friendly and hospitable. The Hospitals throughout the world are certainly named after this Latin base, hospes. I have searched and so far there is no good base for this name without speculating. It is very well known that the traits of these people named Hospel, are many, industrious, forthright, honest, proud, sincere, intelligent, family oriented and one other: hospitable. The travels through Europe associated with visiting these Hospel families, one trait stood out: great hospitality. Even the Hospels in Germany, which I have only corresponded with, one thing stood out again: hospitality and friendliness. Greater research will be done to confirm this more. But for now the name Hospel is synonymous for the Latin word hospes. It fits the the Hospels.
