My mother Sarah-Sheina daughter of my grandfather Rabbi Tsodik Ha Levi Gurevich (Hurwitz), he is son of Shmuel Ha Levi Gurevich (Hurwitz). My grandmother Ginda Gurevich (Cohen) daughter of Rabbi Joseph Cohen is wife of Rabbi Tsodik Ha Levi Gurevich (Hurwitz). They were born in Lithuania - the grandmother in 1879 in Polangen, and grandfather in 1869 possibly in the same place. Grandpa was appointed in 1912, as a Rabbi in shtetl Dashkovka (Belarus). He was a prominent man in the Jewish world at that time. He wrote in Hebrew an interpretation of the Pentateuch: the book “The joy of the sermon”, which is stored in the Lubavitch Library in New York. http://www.hebrewbooks.org/34826
His name is mentioned in the American gazetteer "SHTETL FINDER" (pages 17 and 70).
After the revolution, his family persecuted because of religious origin, and in 1932 grandfather and grandmother managed to emigrate to Palestine. Certificate (passport) for them was bought by the brother of my grandfather, who lived in America. They settled in Jerusalem in place “Minsk houses”. Grandpa continued his activities as chairman of the rabbinical court. His brother helped financially to grandparents until the end of their lives. Grandfather died in 1942 and was buried in Jerusalem on the Mount of Olives on the “Site of the saints”. Grandmother died in 1949 and was buried there. I hope, that the descendants of the grandfather's brother live in America now, and my goal is to find them. The search is difficult, because I do not know his name, date and place of birth, year of emigration to America. I have known only his surname - Ha Levi Hurwitz (Gurevich) and the name with surname of his father - Shmuel Ha Levi Hurwitz (Gurevich) Many descendants of my grandparents emigrated at the end of XX century to America, Israel, Canada. They all would be happy to meet new relatives, the family grandfather's brother.
Variations of surname Gurevich: Hurwitz, Horvitz, Hurwitch
