Kunnathu Veedu in Attingal is a very old Vishwakarma family closely related to Cherunellil Veedu and Deva Veedu. From olden days, they were associated with the royal family of Attingal.
The members of the family were skilled craftsmen. They used to make cradles for new born of the palace. Attingal palace was the abode of the female head of the Travancore royal family. For their services, they were given land as ‘Uurhiyam’ (farm land presented to those loyal to royal family, without any tax for rendering any sort of physical labour). They were known as ‘Kunnathu Acharimar’,the title which was passed on to the senior most male members of the family. Shangu Achari (1860s-1940) was the last karnavar of the family to hold the title.
