About the Ryon surname

The Ryons had a farm in Prince George's County and seem to have been a large family that are difficult to trace. The ones we are related to seem to have a different mother than the mother that is listed for most records of this family. They are my great aunt's and my grandmother's family on my father's side. Their father died of an illness after he went hunting in the rain. He was a realtor in Washington DC during the late 19th century and is buried at Congressional Cemetery around Washington DC.

One branch of the Ryon tree dead end with William Simpson Ryon :/ January 1, 1824 possibly Jefferson Co., TN. His marriage bond was signed by Henri Rians. It is quoted that he changed his last name from. Early records show him as Simpson Rian or Rians. He indicated on census s that his parents were born in Tennessee. A 1790 bil of receipt show a purchase by a Henri Rians in Jefferson Co, Tennessee.

The two interesting clues are both connected to President Ulysses Simpson Grant. His materal family was named Simpson and appears to be connected to Ryon's and Guffey's of Jefferson and Hawkins Co., Tennessee. A branch of Ryons lived in Simpson Co., Kentucky. Since the ages of Simpson's as a middle name were all the age of US Grant it precedes any chance of them being named after the President.
