First found in Sardinia. Most commonly found today in southern Europe around Campeche, Naples, Italy and Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. The first large new world migration occurred in mid 1800s from northwestern Spain to Puerto Rico and Cuba following Spain's 1812 decree. The largest new world migration from Galicia to Argentina was in the mid 20th century after the Spanish Civil War from1936-1939.
