I have a strong suspicion that a distant ancestor of mine was along with his 2 siblings the children of William Berkeley b. 1786 - 1857.

I would be welcome hearing from anyone who would be interested in researching these details further.
The children's mother never married but was left money by William - as were the children.

The first child born was described as illegitimate - however the next 2 were not given that description & their mother although single was described as Gentlewoman

Also in distant reaches of my tree. More complex than that - secret marriage was recognised by parties but not the courts.
