I was also wondering what anyone’s perspectives on ancestry DNA or 23 and me. Who do you find to be more accurate ?

Hello my DNA Mt is U3a1 and I am from Spain, it is more likely that your mt DNA is very old, normally in autosomal tests we will give the results of our ancestors from 5 to 7 generations ago, your Mt DNA will be much earlier, the Mutation U3a1 appears about 9000 years ago and samples of this DNA were found in Portugal dating from 2900 to 2500 BC and in Andalucia (Spain) between 2500 and 2200 BC, there is a theory that this haplogroup extended from the Iberian Peninsula to Scotland, Wales and Islancia towards the Calcolithic or the early Bronze Age, I am doing a small study about this haplogroup and I have created a blog, I invite you to visit it as soon as you have finished the study of this haplogroup, it is really just a small study done by an amateur like me but wanting to learn.

From what i have read this particular haplogroup (U3a1) is predominantly European distributed. It is fascinating to note that we all have a common maternal ancestor. I have not yet done a complete sequencing of my mtDNA

So is it quite certain that the mutation creating the U3a1 line began in Southern Germany?

Hi, I have been advised by LivingDNA that I have U3, subclade U3a1. It advised me, my maternal DNA is most commonly found in Lithuanian Roma?!? U3 has a middle eastern origin. It is thought to date back 30,000 years. There are many different arguments as to how U3 reached Europe, from neolithic farmers to etrucans and spread if Roman colonies from Italy.The Romani have high frequencies of U3, particularly amongst Lithuanian, Spanish, and Polish populations. I was most suprised at finding this to be my haplogroup.

I have found the Angel's website to be very useful and interesting. Thank you, Angel. I might add that through MyHeritage my DNA was a mixture of Scandanavian, English, Scottish/Welsh &Irish but also 2.7% Iberian. Which links in with Angel's information. I have since had DNA test results with LivingDNA (for more British regions) and Ancestry. Both these test reults do not show Iberian though??

In due course, I may use 23 and me for a further MT test?? would it be more comprehnesive than LivingDNA?

I know that U3 is the most common mtDNA haplotype with the European Roma, but I don't think it's the U3a1 subclade. The U3a1 subclade has greatest frequency in Iceland (almost 4%) and the runner-up is Scotland.
It seems to me that everyone in Iceland with U3a1 is a maternal line descendent of Ragnheiður Eiríksdóttir from Kross in Landeyjar who shot to prominence in 1471 after having brought a successful indictment against her husband's murderers, who despite being very rich and powerful people, received capital punishment for their deeds.
Most of the Icelandic upper class for centuries after were her maternal line descendents.

I have checked back on my details on myheritage tree and I cant see any link, so far, to Ragnheidur Eiriksdottir from Iceland. I have several ancient relatives from Norway and Sweden.
On mytrue ancestry, my closest ancient populations are celt & saxon 2.9%, celt &longobard 3.88%, viking icelandic & longobard 4.63%, viking icelandic & celt 4.82%, viking Icelandic 7.496%. Also my DNA samples match , viking norse iceland (935AD) - 98% sample match. The MTDNA haplogroup is U5a1h - the YDNA is R1a1a1b1a3. From what I can gather from information on mytrueancestry, at one point Iceland was colonised by Norwegian men and gaelic females.

How far can you trace your maternal line?

Hi Elias, on my mothers matrnal line I can only trace back to 1782 and I've hit a brick wall! However, on my mothers father's side (my grandfather), I can trace back to the 800'sAD. (Scottish side) The mtDNA haplogroup is U3a1 (Living DNA). The U5a1h I mentioned was on mytrue ancestry, as one of my matches.

I am U3a1c1, the only one detected in Spain. my extra mutation 10831 have not been reported yet in North Europe, therefore, my lineage might migrate to south 2,000 y.a. from Holstein Saxon motherland for almost all U3a1c subclade
my Yfull kit is YF67430 and I published my full mitocondrial sequence in NCBI GenBank (the only YSEQ kit below U3a1c1). I am admin in U3a Yfull group managing 120 kits. There are 6 new U3a1 clades catalogued in last update

New paper about native iberian mitocondrial haplogroups discovered 5 new U3a1 from Spain and 1 U3a1 from Portugal. 3 samples have a regressive marker (16343A!) which is the same detected in Angel Guerrero's 23andme kit, 2 of them are below a new branch in Yfull: U3a1n, one sample is from Murcia and another from Granada. I am not now the only U3a1c1 iberian sample because there is a new sample from Valladolid, Castile, with different extra variant than mine. *Insert mouth drop emoji* Originally started with AncestryDNA but it don't give you a haplogroup so I went with 23 & Me which gave me U3a1 as my mtDNA due my aunt on my maternal side cant really spit in a tube I started a LivingDNA account which again giving me U3a1 since my maternal grandmother was originally from Scotland it co-sides with all your findings that it may be highly noted in this area. Which now gives me a new area to start hunting down this line in my family tree and how far back I can go before I hit a brick wall.

Further to M.Roman’s posts, I have 3.7% Iberian DNA according to my MyHeritage DNA results. Is there a link there?

There are 2 new U3a1 very ancient samples (circa 5,000 BC) from Schletz, Austria with 2 markers never found in living people: 3927G 5821A and another from Hungary (same Neolitrhic Period) without no extra markers, therefore, U3a1 is surely more ancient we thinked, every extra marker is about 2K years, 2 markers 4,000 years + 7,000 years dated is very close to 11,000 years, what Yfull shows https://www.yfull.com/mtree/U3a1/ and retrograde behaviour (back mutations) is so ancient as our clade because at the same period we have several remains with 2 extra markers and others none (back mutation deleted last marker). The same retrograde behavior is found in Angel Guerrero subclade U3a1n and anothers not catalogued yet with samples from Holland, Poland, Denmark, Spain, Germany and ancient remains with rare markers

There are 2 new discovered remains dated of 2,300 BP somewhere over North Europe (still anonymous site until published, presumably GB) with U3a1c1 positive markers
That's 1,000 years more ancient than FTDNA admins said therefore we already know why many U3a1c1 don't match by autosomal kits, our common ancestor lived surely during Late Iron Age in NE England and it was the top successful branch which spread over Norway Denmark Germany, Spain and specially, Ireland
