Are you sure that Elizabeth, wife of Robert West, was born a Burie? The only source I've found is a marriage record in London dated 1626. This doesn't seem likely as Robert was already in the Colony of VA and would have been only about 14 years old. Thanks!

Beth-

No, I'm not certain of Elizabeth West's birth surname of Burie. I believe that entry was originally made by Kathleen Gandy, one of the other managers of the profile, so I don't know her source. When I search Robert West's wives in other family trees, I see both Burie and Austin as her maiden name. I'd be happy to update Elizabeth's profile if you have any confirming information that would help clear that up. Thanks!

Steven Ross Maris thanks so much for responding. Unfortunately, I don't have any primary documentation that either confirms or denies Burie as Elizabeth's last name at birth. What I do have:
The marriage of Robert to Elizabeth in London 1626 doesn't seem likely as Robert was already in the colony of Va and would have been only14, as stated above.

There is a well-documented discussion regarding Robert and his descendants at http://sites.rootsweb.com/~tnsumner/fafamilylinks.htm It names Elizabeth as LNAB unknown, and Robert's 2nd wife as widow Mary Rayne.

The MilesFiles a well-respected collection of Northampton families does not have any Burie surname included. Here is the link to Robert West's profile

Perhaps one day, Elizabeth's LNAB can be confirmed. She may have come to Northampton as a servant either with Lady Dale or a neighbor which is how she met Robert.

Thanks again!
