YDNA Signature of the Uí Ímair

Fairly new to the GENi platform, so please feel free to let me know if I'm not following the rules here...

Almost 2 years ago, I took a YDNA test and found out that despite a Scottish birthplace for my oldest known patrilineal ancestor, I am actually Norse. Another interesting aspect was that I had cluster of distant male cousins on the Isle of Man as well as a few in Ireland, Britain and the US.

Started asking a lot of questions and eventually found myself learning all I could about SNP's STRs and Phylogeny Programs. Also started researching Norse history and found out that a Norse dynasty; the Uí Ímair were prominent in the Ireland and the Isles starting around the year 850.

Big question with analysis of YDNA is when did the most recent common ancestor live?

A few months ago, I downloaded public YDNA data from the Isle of Man, ran a quick analysis and found that the most recent common Norse ancestor for these men lived around the year 800 (550-1050). None of these men, by the way have genealogical records much before the year 1500. All of these men though are downstream of R-BY30726 by FamilyTree YDNA analysis.

I intend to repeat the analysis and will post an update at a later time. If requested, I can post more details or graphical representations if that is permitted by GENi. It would be great if somebody else could share their STR analysis results as a check. I used only 111 STR data.

There are several good Phylogeny Programs available. The one I use is: http://www.jdvtools.com/SAPP/
