Capt. Thomas Gaddy - Can someone give any information about this profile?

I honestly don't think it is real. Family Search has him as "Captain Thomas Gaddy of the Confederacy" and someone's photo on his profile. If this profile is correct, Captain Thomas Gaddy, Sr. lived 1729 - 1789. The "Confederacy" had not been thought of yet. Even Wikitree has the same will on both his profile and his son's profile.

I sorted (sort of) his son Corporal Thomas Burton Gaddy, Jr. who was a real person and I noted the DAR number and documentation. But, "The Captain" is spurious to me and someone is having a great laugh about it.

There are a lot of profile managers and these lines connect into several families of mine so I would like to get them straight. All help appreciated.

Here is the wikitree profile I mentioned with the same will noted as the son's.

Official records of the state of NC, Volume 13, the source provided on his DAR file, on page 504, number 19 of the Roll of Capt. Benjamin Coleman's Company in Second NC Battalion commanded by Col. John Patten:

Thomas Gaddy - enlisted as a Private on March 21st 1776 and served 3 years. The DAR has him down as a Corporal, which is reasonable, since I think that is not far above the rank of Private.

Ancestor #: A042865

Thanks, Private User. That is exactly what I was finding from the DAR on Thomas Gaddy, Jr. I never found anything on the "Captain" to substantiate it.

This is what I know from working on this era for a while. Many times the son was the "soldier" and the father provided support. If I can find anything where Thomas Gaddy Sr. provided bacon, for instance (I say that as I have a direct ancestor who furnished Francis Marion's troops and was later rewarded with a lot of land. All I can say is it must have been some mighty fine bacon.) that might be the reason someone thinks he deserves some sort of distinction. My direct ancestor who provided bacon was often referred as a LT. though his DAR applications don't dare claim that.

I also had a father and son direct ancestors and the father provided support and the son served as a soldier. This has been beneficial for various branches who verified lines.

I am just trying to make sure everyone of the many profile managers are on the same page with this. Making it public record. There seems to be no record of Sr. being a Revolutionary War supplier or soldier.

Thanks to you all for sorting through this! I double checked my Dad, David Gaddy's records and they are spotty and inconsistent (other than the NC location looks sound). He was fastidious, an amateur historian, and would greatly appreciate your efforts!

Catherine Diane Gaddy, we are 12th cousins, but if you look at our in-law relationship, you can see how I became involved in sorting this. Right now, I am of the mind to scrub "the Captain of the Confederacy" or at least clean him up to where he is more believable. I don't think we can let this go on any further. This post has been up for 10 days and I am glad that someone in the direct line has responded. We can do what we can to make things look better.

I have added the notes/photos from Catherine Diane Gaddy onto the profiles of Corporal Thomas Burton Gaddy, Jr. and Captain Thomas Gaddy, Sr.. This brings us to a couple of questions:

1. Matching the wives on the profile of Corporal Thomas Burton Gaddy, Jr. . The DAR has problems with who different children belong to - Jane or Millison/Millicent. What I'd like to know is "Who is Mary Jane Millison Gaddy" and could she be a combination of the two women or should they be separated? And then where does Amelia come in? I can find no reference or sources for her. Those are important questions to sort children of Thomas and wife/wives.

2. Catherine Diane Gaddy's information is clear and concise. It notes sources are wills and estate requests etc. That said, there are too many children for Corporal Thomas Burton Gaddy, Jr..

On the profile of Captain Thomas Gaddy, Sr., could Jeriah Gaddy and Jereak Gaddy be the same person? The two profiles do not have many sources on them and the My Heritage profiles could have been picked up here on Geni and that's just a self-sourced situation then.

We are getting these profiles much better, but we need active managers on some of them. Any assistance appreciated.
