There seems to be an issue as to who his parents are. One theory is Hans Georg Dillman and Margaretha Muirr. The other theory is Andrew/ Dillman and Barbary Roush.

I've checked Ancestry and most trees show him as the son of Andrew, which is probably based on a book "Genealogy of the Houser, Rhorer, Dillman, Hoover Families", 1910, by Dr. WW Houser. However, a notation on his Find a Grave states this has been disproven through DNA and that the book is not documented.

The oldest record I could find for him was in 1790, but he was already 40 years old, so it doesn't link him to any parents.

I did find an immigration record for Hans George. The U.S. and Canada, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s-1900s lists his arrival in Philadelphia in 1751 with a wife and two children. Andrew was born in 1751, supposedly in Pennsylvania. It doesn't really prove anything, but I really couldn't find any records for his supposed father Andrew.

Who are his parents?

Unfortunately I only know what I've found through Ancestry records and family trees on that website. How are you related to him? He was my great great great great grandfather (assuming the records are correct and that there's no DNA mystery!).

I'm not related to him, I research a lot of DAR patriots. I noticed the parents he had were cut off recently and I couldn't confirm which ones were correct, so I thought it warranted a discussion.

Huh... why the interest?

Also, which Find-A-Grave has the DNA notation? Can you send me a link?

The interest is because it's a profile I manage and I want the tree to be accurate. Here is the Find a Grave link, which is also in his profile.

It can be undone if need be -but then I suggest listing no parents for Andrew. He is my 5th great grandfather.

We can either remove the parents and have it made a MP with a notation about the parents, or decide which parents are most likely and then still have it MPd with a notation.

I tend to think his parents are probably Hans Georg and Margaretha Murr, only because I couldn't really find anything for Andrew and Barbary, but that doesn't mean they weren't his parents.

Managers, please comment as to which of the above options you think we should take. A curator will still weigh in when we ask for the MP, but we can at least present them with our thoughts.

I have found something from a DAR books mentioning Andrew Sr. and also he and Barbary are mentioned in the Ohio list of Revolutionary War Pensioners.

Can you post the link?

The links are on the Ancestry sight on Andrew Dillmans profile.

I found him listed in the millennium file and it lists his father as Andrew. However, the millennium file is not all that reliable.

Name: Andrew Dillman
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 21 Oct 1751
Birth Place: Bethel Twp, Berks, Pennsylvania, USA
Death Date: 21 May 1823
Death Place: Bracken, Kentucky, USA
Marriage Date: 1 Aug 1777
Father: Andrew Dillman
Spouse: Barbara Rousch
Children: Andrew Dillman

We can leave Andrew as the father, change his father to George, or remove the fathers altogether, depending on what the consensus is. Although Find a Grave says DNA proved otherwise, we don't have any proof of that, it's just a comment with nothing backing it up. In light of this millennium record, despite its possible shortcomings, I would say Andrew should be listed as the father, unless something more concrete turns up.

Please comment your thoughts and then we can ask a curator to make the updates.

Curator note:

There seems to be an issue as to who his parents are. One theory is Hans Georg Dillman and Margaretha Muirr. The other theory is Andrew/ Dillman and Barbary Roush.

Links to both sets of parents should be added to profile. Not sure we should lock.
