I think this is her:

but I am unclear about her position in the tree. According to the above link she married Robert Alexander Smith and had only one child, also named Robert Alexander Smith - which means that she can't have been the mother of William Marchant Smith... but I do know that William Marchant Smith (Typhoon Bill) was the father of Arthur Mayer Smith, and thus my great-grandfather. Perhaps Typhoon Bill's father was the son of Robert Alexander Smith junior, and Susannah Marchant was his grandmother...

Susan Marchant was married to Robert Alexander Smith and they had 4 children. One of them was Typhoon Bill. He in turn had 4 children, one of whom was Henry, my Grandfather.

Hi Rod, thanks for this. Much of what I know I got from research done by someone who had bought a house in Liverpool, which turned out to be the former home of William Marchant Smith (Typhoon Bill). You may still be able to find it - it was a Wordpress blog called The Ghost and Mrs Scott". It's a private site called "Scott's Abode", so you will have to log in to Wordpress and then request access. I'm afraid I do not know the chap's name.
According to the blog, Typhoon Bill (I'll call him that to avoid confusing with William Marchant Smith junior, his son)
QUOTE
In the summer of 1882 at the age of 32 he married 24 year old Ruth Metcalfe at St Philips Church in Litherland, just north of Liverpool. Ruth was the daughter of George, a Master Mariner, so William probably met her through this seafaring connection. They set up home in Liverpool and had three children: William Marchant Smith born in 1884, Arthur Mayer Smith (1886) and Robert Alexander Smith (1887). Some time between 1887 and 1891 the family moved into this house and employed two servants: Mary Salt and Anne Nelson.

I presume your Grandfather Henry was a later addition - do you have his birth date or birth certificate, by any chance? If so I can add him to the tree.
.
My Grandfather Arthur Mayer Smith was also son of William Marchant Smith (Typhoon Bill). My father's name was Basil Marchant Smith (who later adopted the Muslim name Badr El-Murad).

Rod, very interesting indeed, and many thanks!
I have been building my family tree here on Geni.com (because it's free), but I may have to join Ancestry to access all this information!
However, according to the screenshot you so kindly shared Henry Smith (1857-1935) was the youngest son of Susan Marchant and Robert Alexander Smith, and the brother of Typhoon Bill, and he was your great-grandfather?
If you are interested in sharing information, pictures, memories etc my email address is jelmurad@gmail.com.

Hi Jaafar,

That tree is from one of our relatives, John Schlosser, in San Diego.
If you join Ancestry, I am sure he will share his tree with you.
You can then see lots of photos, birth and death certificates, etc. Also, living people.
Henry was indeed my GGF, and like Typhoon Bill, he too was a ship's captain.
I believe he was to have been the captain of the Titanic after its maiden voyage and was waiting in NY for its arrival, which of course, never happened.

Cheers
Rod
