Volunteers vs. Drafted

Is there a distinction made between men who served in the army as volunteers and those who were drafted into the army? I have the service records for four ancestors: Pranas Galalis, Antanas Galalis, Matas Galalis and Jurgis Galalis. They were from the villages of Miliunai and Meilunai in the Siesikai parish. I do not see them in the database. I can share copies of the records. Rich O'Boyle

Eglė Jarašiūnaitė do you know?

You did not indicate whose army? Russian army of the 1800s and early 1900s or independent Lithuania? If they were among the first volunteers for the Lithuanian army then they would be decorated as per the write up here https://versme.lt/sav_a.htm

Sorry... let me clarify. My family members served in about 1920-1922 in the Lithuanian Army wars for independence. The military records for each are about 3-6 pages and include what seems like their "application" and then basics of their service including leave given. One of them appears to have deserted but then came back. Here is the brother of my great grandfather Pranciškus Galalis. His "About" section includes Lithuanian to English translations of the documents. The individual images are under "Media."

I looked through the images of the documents you mentioned. I have to say they are a first for me. I have heard of such papers but never seen any. Thank you for sharing. Pranciškus documents do suggest he was involved in the Army as your said and among the founding volunteers from the dates mentioned there. What I don't get just yet is why the surname does not appear in the "versmė" list of government acknowledged founders of the volunteer army. Is Pranciškus the one that deserted for a period? Are you ok with my sharing this with some others to see if they can clarify anything?

Do you have an alternate scan of this? The bottom right hand corner says something about "crossed off list/išbrauktas" but is covered up by another paper? https://media.geni.com/p13/82/03/dd/b7/534448600bc5d4f6/20210803_09...

Thank you Edward. I see the obscured part of the document. Those are the best scans that I have. The possible "deserter" was Antanas Galalis. These were quick translations so I'm not sure if they are the best. As always little bits of data can be very meaningful. I'm not sure if everything was translated correctly or comprehensively. Yes you are welcome to share these documents. Please keep me in the loop. My personal email is richoboyle@yahoo.com. I can share with you my folder on my Google Drive where I have all of the documents and some notes.
