Elkanah Haralson
1745 – 13 April 1781 • LHFS-VGY

Elkanah Harrelson's estate settlement was recorded in 1787 in Caswell County, North Carolina. The last page lists his seven children: Jesse, Reuben, Micajah, Bradley, Anderson, Hyrum and Elkanah, Jr. A young son, Hosea, born 1774, died earlier in 1787 and was not listed.

Elkanah's will written on 13 April 1781 listed his 8 sons and the apprenticeships he wanted for the youngest ones. He signed the will with a unique signature. The witnesses were Hugh Barnett, Margaret McFarlane, and Elizabeth Winfield.

FS is messy but the free records are great.

I have been working on Elkhanah and Elshiba's parents all day. I think I have got some thing sorted. Wikitree is a mess on them, but I have found some sources elsewhere. Did find will for Elishba. She and Elkhana were cousins.

William Long Hunter Harrelson is not clear here or elsewhere

These need some clean up and MP. Native lines and so take care.

Always.

I know. There is some info on the Wikitree for William Long Hunter, but it is rather contradictory.

I will get back as soon as possible. Have been working from the profile sent to me on Friday that has Harrell not Harrelson parents on it. Worked back to Elkhanah and Elishba then from there. Lots of clean up as in all the Harrelson lines. They get so messed up.

I wanted to add some notes here for research today rather than try to do anything with them.
I saw you working on them again. I always wish you good fortune when I see these names and know they are close to your heart.

Many thanks, friend as yes, they are and they get in such a mess. I did find some info on some of them. It wasn't as much as I'd like. Wills are priceless, but it is what it is and they are better. I am going to contact someone about curating a few. :-)

I would pursue the "swore he died without a will" note in the FS collab section I added above.
I could not hunt it down quickly so moved on as I am in the middle of a tangle myself lol
Working on a NEW DNA match I was alerted on MyHeritage

I have a big back burner and names seem to hover

Chip, chip :)

Cynthia Curtis, A183502, US7875087, I sent the following to a curator for curation:

Mary "Whitefeather" Nance Harrelson

William James "Long Hunter" Harrelson, II

William Harrelson, I (Who has Revolutionary War service that I found.)

Jane Harrelson

Elkanah Jesse Harrelson

Elisheaber Harrelson

Reuben Harrelson, I

Kizziah Harrelson

I will work on the others of Elishba and Elkhanah's children. It has been a good exercises to see the connections from VA to NC to SC and TN and GA - lastly ARKansas and MIssissippi.

Most went west after the War of 1812. I need to check those rosters.

Beautiful!
Hoping to SEE parents added to Jane Harrelson soon

I would love that, but not sure where to looks so posting her link may help. I am not sure how I missed William's Revolutionary War service when I was documenting his brother Benjamin, but I did. Going to see if the others have any records.

Jane Anderson
1722–Deceased • LHTZ-PYZ
Jane seen as dau of Elkanah Anderson 1695–1766

Maybe where the name Elkanah came from. Will try to see what else I can did up. I just haven't gotten any further today.

I am looking for more info on Jane. Not sure if I can access the church records, but that is what is needed. So far only son John Anderson seems to be verifiable. However, the Family Search dates on his profile seem a bit off.

Women were terribly undocumented then. Oh well, it is highly probable in my opinion, but would like to find more.

Elkanah Sr. is noted as a son of John Anderson and Sarah Waddy? in the following notation. The date of his birth would not allow him to be the father of Jane Harrelson if that is correct.

Found this on https://homepages.rootsweb.com/~anderson/va/trees/robert2.html

Patrick, Thank you for your Anderson webpage - it is amazing. I am looking

for information on Elkanah Anderson whose daughter, Miss ? Anderson married

William Harrelson, son of Paul Harrelson and Patience Lewis. Elkanah and

Miss Anderson had a son named Elkanah Harrelson who married a cousin,

Elishebear Harrelson. Elkanah Harrelson died before June 1781 of war

wounds. Their son was Anderson Harrelson born about 1776 and died in

Hopkins County, Kentucky, in 1824. The Harrelsons were in the New Kent,

Virginia area, also. I had a note that Elkanah Anderson married a Sarah

Bradley, but the only record I have found to verify this is a deed listing

Elkanah's wife as Sarah. In your copious notes, if you have any more

information on Elkanah Anderson's family, I would appreciate hearing from

you. Again, thanks. Betty

Found this Geni profle that replicates the Family Search profile, but again, need to substantiate the dates:

Elkanah Anderson

Need more info on Elkanah 1695 or if his b. date is 1720.

Moving back looking through the lines, I am finding more confusion - Robert Anderson, Sr.

Why is his profile showing SAR and Revolutionary War Service? He died in 1712 according to church records. Looks like it needs clean up. Can someone help with that? Probably belongs to a son or more probably a grandson.

The DAR records show three Robert Anderson's from VA (and he may have been in another state by that date)

Many of these trees have a lot of sources and I did find a SAR app on the first one I looked at.
I don't know why the SAR apps aren't SAVE IMAGE capable on the site or why I cannot share from the page but here is a cut/paste of the URL for a descendant of Lt Col Richard Clough Anderson: https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/2204/images/32596_...

I don't see him on Geni YET.
He should be. Maybe I just can't find him here?
He is kind of a big deal:
As a Continental Army captain, he crossed the Delaware River on the first boat with Gen. George Washington en route to the pivotal Revolutionary War battle in Trenton, New Jersey, during which he was wounded. He served as Lafayette’s aide-de-camp as well.

He was a charter member of the Revolutionary War veterans group the Society of the Cincinnati
