Why is her maiden name White when neither of her parents have that surname? There is nothing in her Overiew to explain anything.

Also, Ancestry trees show the mother of Sherwood Harris connected here as her child not as a child of this Sarah or her husband Richard Harris bur rather have this as Sherwood's parents;

Father
Robert Harris, Major (1664–1722)
Mother
Elizabeth Lizzie Turner (1679–1738)

Sherwood Harris, Sr.

Thanks for any clarifivation.

(That suggests it was “automatically done” by a related merge).

I’ll undo merge and see what we have.

Need notes in profiles with citations. It’s not an area I know, so I have no special knowledge to offer.

Nor do I. I'm helping a friend trace her lines. She's a descendant of Sherwood Harris but she has never really done genealogy and has been stuck on her research.

Here’s Margaret Harris & Richard Harris - no Sherwood.

Here’s Sarah Ann Harris & Richard Harris, I - Sherwood attached but not described in parent profiles.

Hope that helps.

Debbie Gambrell - if you can pass this info onto your friend?

I don’t know that Tom King will answer, he hasn’t been around. But in previous Harris discussions, I learned from him just how difficult southern Harris genealogy is; and as a result of Y DNA testing, many pedigrees have been recently revised. She also faces that Hanover County is burned over (Civil War); and that multiple men with the same name lived there.

For example, one of the resources listed at https://familypedia.fandom.com/wiki/Harris_Surname_DNA_Project is titled:

Harris, Malcolm Hart. “Three William Harrises in Hanover County.” The Virginia Genealogist 22 (1978):3-15, 99-104, 187-193.

At least Sherwood is unique name, and we know from his Will he had a brother Robert also in Granville, NC, so that should make this doable.

Cool Sherwood comes right up. But it’s really broad.

Group 08 (I-M253, etc.) - Capt. Thomas Harris (c1586-1658) of Jamestown and Henrico Co., VA & other lineages

Col. Robert Harris, Ill (I think)

So this doesn’t contradict that this Robert Harris is Sherwood’s brother. It suggests that this Robert’s descendant had more advanced testing.

The group admin should be able to help more.

Reposting for typo correction.

https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/9560499/person/-52... makes a case for Robert Harris of Hanover County & Elizabeth (Turner) Harris as parents of patriots Richard & Robert, and Sherwood, but I don’t see direct evidence.

If we move over Sherwood as son of Robert Harris of Hanover County & Elizabeth Harris we also need to move over brother Robert.

DNA shows Robert Harris of Henrico Co. VA was father of Robert Harris Jr. and grandfather of Sherwood Harris and his brother, Robert, of Granville co. NC

(This is beginning to be a “bingo” for me, but I need more eyes on, please.)

And Col. Robert Harris, Ill mentioned a brother David Harris in “his” will, so we have another child removed from Sarah Ann Harris & attached to Elizabeth Harris

Debbie Gambrell - I now feel comfortable we have supportable parents for Sherwood Harris, Sr.

Wow! I hadn't been back since yesterday. You've been busy and, as usual, done an amazing job! I can't thank you enough for sorting her Sherwood since neither she nor I are familiar with any of the family history. Once we get her tree put together, I don't know if she plans to connect the dots to herself here on Geni or if I'll be doing it. She has a profile but not pathways at this time.

Erica Howton Sherwood is my friend's 7th ggf and neither of us had heard of him until yesterday. She's a very distant cousin to me (10th cousin, I believe), so I'm totally unfamiliar with all her lines and she doesn't know much more about them than I do. She asked my help so she can learn more about her ancestry. So, again, I really do apperciate the assistance you put into this.
