I am attempting to copy family info from MyHeritage to Geni. SmartCopy is loaded and appears to be functioning properly. I have family info that I entered in MH that would like to move into Geni however SC does not bring up the specific family profile I am looking for. It brings up others. Any suggestions would be appreciated. For reference I have a MyHeritage subscription.

David, what kind of era are you looking to copy?
SC won't let you copy profiles that it detects are older than 1600s, alternatively it may be a privacy issue with profiles for living people, happy to take a look for you but not able to suggest much without knowing more details.

Early 1800's. This is my 2X great grandfather, William Johns, born in 1814 in Wales. I can see him in my MH family tree that I entered but SC does not pull him up. SC pulls up other William Johns in Wales. Since it is my personal MH family tree it should not be a privacy issue.

This is the main Discussion about SmartCopy: https://www.geni.com/discussions/145968

David,
I found your gggf William Johns then searched MH and found the matching profile in your tree there https://www.myheritage.com/research/record-1-646309631-4-152/willia... I was able to use SC to update the Burial Location.

So there does not appear to be any problem with SC itself.

You said yesterday "... however SC does not bring up the specific family profile I am looking for. It brings up others. " so I think the issue is with the search engine feature of SC? I don't use this feature myself much but as an experiment I gave it a go and achieved these results: https://www.myheritage.com/research?action=query&exactSearch=0&form...

Without further filtering these results are beyond useless :)
To find your tree I added surname = John and Henllys as birthplace and checked the Must Match box on the location which gave this results page https://www.myheritage.com/research/collection-1/myheritage-family-...

Hopefully this helps, if not ask your question again in the thread that Lois linked to with a link back to this thread.

Alex,
Thank you for your assistance, I appreciate it.

I am new to both Geni and SC and have a couple probably basic questions. I am asking in this thread as I am not sure how to copy our previous messages to reference in the other. I will continue this discussion at the link you mention after this message.

The first link you reference is the William John in my MH profile. Did you use the SC search engine or are there other ways to locate individuals with SC?

I followed the last link in your message but still do not see the William John at my site in MH through SC. I am likely doing something wrong here. Ultimately what I am attempting to do is add some of William's children (Thomas J) and grandchildren and avoiding gedcom's.

David,

if you go to a Geni profile and activate SC you can add the Geni profile to the SC history.
When you are on the MH profile you should be able to select the Geni profile from the SC history and set it as a target.
If a Geni profile has a MH match it is even easier. If you go from the Geni profile to the match screen on the matching MH profile SC will select the Geni profile as a destination by default.

Adding to the SC history is on the bottom of the SC popup

Well first, thank you for avoiding gedcoms :)

In my previous post I gave you 3 links, as you say the first is to your tree. The second was horrible junk, the third was when i applied some filters to the second.

If you use the first link you should have something like this view :
www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000187543855868&size=large

next click on the blue arrow:
www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000187545424830&size=large

And if you have SC installed and working correctly you will get this pop up:

www.geni.com/media/proxy?media_id=6000000187544997893&size=large

Paste in this number 6000000163586757260 in the second, empty, field and hit the Set Destination button. This creates a temporary link between MH and Geni which you can use to copy data across

Thank you Alex that worked.

My only question is how did you find William John with SmartCopy for the first link as I cannot find him in SC and is there another method other than search? Even refining my search does not seem to help.

Bingo!

When I look for my ggfather using the same method I can't see my own MH tree in the search results so I think the software is blocking any trees in MH registered to your email account that is the same as the one you are registered with on Geni.

Job Waterreus, plausible?

Sorry, I don't know (I do not have a MH tree, so I never tested that)
I know you can do a search from MH for the Geni profile using https://www.myheritage.nl/research/collection-40000/geni-world-fami...
