Although her burial record in the Slidre parish register indicates that she was 101 years old when she died in 1731, a birth year of 1630 seems highly unlikely. Anne and husband Oluf/Ole Kjøstelsen Hande had five known children, the youngest two Marit and Kari, were born in 1682 and 1684. So Anne would have been into her 50s when those babies were born. Not completely outside the realm of possibility, but highly unlikely. Also, Oluf/Ole is said to have been born about 1648, so again one must question whether he would marry a woman 18 years his senior.

Hello-

Here is the recording of her burial at the age of 101 in the Slidre parish records:
Slidre prestekontor, SAH/PREST-134/H/Ha/Haa/L0001: Parish register (official) no. 1, 1724-1814, p. 620-621

She is also listed as the daughter of Guttorm Laren and Gunild Nilsdatter of Bergji I on page 532 of the Valdres bygdebok. It says she married Ola Kiostelsen of Hande. On page 530 of the Valdres bygdebok at Hande III it says that she married Oluf Kiostelsen and that she was born in 1630 and died in 1731.

Yes, it does seem rather spectacular that she lived to be that old, but I guess we come from some pretty good genes.

Sincerely,
Larry Justad

Thanks, Larry. Yes, I have looked at both those sources. Most likely, Tore Ey was drawing upon the burial record in his bygdebok. All I am saying is that there is reason for skepticism. When one reaches a venerable advanced age, who is to argue the claim when there were apparently no records of baptisms prior to the 1700s?

Yes, I definitely agree there is reason for skepticism. I believe she was most likely in her eighties when she died. Her family may not have known her exact age, except that she was very old. It seems likely that she could very well have been born about 1650 and all the other places, people, and facts apply to her. Other than her very advanced age everything else about her life seems to fit. Unlike many other ancestors I've researched.

Larry
