The Mary Bolton that Michael Box married was NOT Mary Bolton, daughter of Robert Bolton and Mary Hubbard. Their 17 year old daughter would have had to traveled over 300 miles alone from VA to SC to marry Box in 1750 at Laurens Co. VA. Also , Mary Hubbard's daughter Mary Bolton did not travel even further to marry John Faver in GA.

Mary Bolton b abt. 1765,( daughter of Robert Bolton Jr, and grand daughter of Mary Hubbard) married Peyton Smith at Pittsylvania Co VA

Happy New Year, James E. Baucom Jr.

Mary Box Is fixed,

Is Mary Box the same person as Mary ‘Molly’ Box

I admire and respect and adore my cousin James E. Baucom Jr. SOOOO much but I know he is trying to retire from/not do genealogy anymore lol. He returned to Geni a while back in order to attach his Y DNA but it wasn't working at the time.... let me get "caught up" please?

Are you here, James?

Short Histories of Five Michael Boxes

https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/box/2074/

As a result of cooperative research of numerous Box genealogists, five Michael Boxes can be distinguished. These short histories are based on the documentation that has been found and are hopefully factual. However, since interpretation of the documentation may be flawed, there may be errors. These short histories are presented as works in progress. Corrections and/or additions are encouraged.

Michael Box, Sr., was born about 1755 and obviously moved south to Georgia. He married Mary Keys Bolton, daughter of Joseph Keys and widow of William Bolton, probably in North Carolina. This Mary may have been known as Mollie. Sarah Box was admin. for the estate of Wm Bolton in the Inferior Court of Orange County, NC (1777-1788). North Carolina acknowledged Michael Box for service in the Revolutionary War. It is probable, based on age, this was same Michael Box who received a land grant of 250 acres on Walnut Creek in 1784 in Laurens County South Carolina adjacent to the tract owned by Mrs. Box, believed to be the widow of Joseph Box. On July 17, 1787, Michael Box also received Grant No. 656 for 160 acres in Greene County, Tennessee, possibly a grant based on his military service. However, in the 1790 census of Laurens County, South Carolina, Michael Box was listed with 2 males over 16; 3 males 1-15; 9 females; 0 slaves. Michael Box was on the 1800 Tax List for Franklin County, Georgia and was listed in the 1805 Georgia lottery. Michael Box, Sr. and Michael Box, Jr. first appear on the Tax List of Franklin County, Georgia in 1807. They are listed again on the Tax List of Franklin County Georgia in 1819. There are records of land deeds involving Michael Box, Sr, and Michael Box, Jr. in Franklin County, Georgia from 1811 to 1820. Ophelia Wade wrote that Michael Box, Sr. died and was buried near Homer, Banks Co. GA in 1820. Gene Swann wrote in his book, "In 1820, Thomas Farmer Anderson bought a tract of land from the heirs of Michael Box." However, the 1830 Census of Franklin County, Georgia has a Michael Box, age 70 to 80, with a wife age 80 to 90.

Dave, Here is my current hypothesis of the Box family, based on the documentation found in land records on South Carolina Archives on-line and the Memorials behind those records and on the court records found in various states. It is quite different from most family trees based on Wades' The Box Book. The documentation is the result of many genealogists’ research. Please keep in mind it is an hypothesis and is subject to change. I post it in anticipation that other Box genealogists will make additions or corrections. I also believe it will play a role in interpreting the yDNA profiles.

Josiah Box was the son of Michael Box who married Mary Keys Bolton (daughter of Joseph Keys and widow of William Bolton). Michael and Mary Box lived beside his mother, Margaret Box, widow of Joseph Box, on Walnut Branch in Laurens Co. SC until they moved to GA and participated in the GA land lotteries and eventually settled in Banks Co. GA. Their sons, Josiah (who died in MS), Marmaduke (who died in TX), claimed land patents in Fayette Co. AL and Michael Jr. moved to Rhea Co. TN and died in TN.

If this makes sense to others

1) Michael Box, Sr. was not the son of Michael Allen Box

2) Michael Allen Box biography, based on https://old.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=159236443, needs to change.
