They are from Sweden and I don't speak or read Swedish. Abt. 1838. Peter Wickstrom (unknown spouse), father of Adele Strom, both born in Sweden. Please, help.

Wikström/Vikström is a rather common surname in Sweden.
Do you have some more information from their immigration records?

I found Adele born in May 1866 and emigrated in 1888.
So I added parents.

I her birth as 1864-1866. Her spouse was Elmer Elsworth Wooley. Her father was Peter Wickstrom. He was born in 1838. She and her father were both born in Sweden. She married and died in Michigan, US. I don't have any immigration records.

Please tag the profiles you are discussing, just finding them on Geni is very difficult let alone helping to research them, especially when the spellings you use do not match the profiles.

cf Adele Wooley

Hans Peter Jönsson Wikström

Two of the siblings of Adele also emigrated, the brother Johannes and the sister Anna Lisa.

Thank you both for your help. The spelling of names changes from one generation to another. I have found Adele and Adel, but I think Adele is correct. In my family records her maiden name is Strom, but her father's name was Wickstrom. Have we been spelling his name wrong all this time? Was Hans his first name?

In Sweden we don't have a 'middle name'. We have one or several 'Förnamn' (first names) and one or several 'Efternamn' (after names). The persons can choose which names they normally use. So Hans Peter Jönsson Wikström could use Hans Wikström or Peter Wikström. A way to find out would be to see how he signed a letter. Your spelling Wickstrom is probably a way to get a pronounciation closer to the Swedish.

Before ca 1900 we had now name laws so anybody could choose any surname (but not protected noble names) and change it at any time.

On my grandmother's marriage certificate Adele Strom is how she it was written. I think that is how she was known or what she called herself.
Thank you. That's good information I can use in the future.

I also saw Pehr. Is that a form of Peter?

Yes - Per, Pehr, Pär, Petter, Peter and Petrus are all variations of the same name.

Thank you
